Bike Racks: Community Food Co-op (Cordata)

The Community Food Co-op store on the north end of town, at Cordata and Westerly, has WONDERFUL bike parking. Like their Forest St. store (previously reviewed), there are multiple racks spread among multiple locations -- specifically 4 racks in 3 locations. Whoo-hoo!

You're most likely to arrive by bike by entering the driveway off Westerly. You'll turn left into the main parking area and the first rack you'll see is Ice Station Orange, off by the ice machine. You'll be tempted to pull up between a couple parked cars and hop up onto the sidewalk to lock up there, but hold off. That sidewalk is way too high for a normal person to wheelie up onto. Instead, keep rolling over toward the main entrance and you'll find the pedestrian access to the sidewalk -- no curb!
And don't double-back to the ice machine. Keep going around the corner. There you'll discover the Red Rack at the Entrance.

This is a pretty good rack. It, like all of the racks here, is a unique rack built from bike parts by folks at The Hub.
It's single-sided, built for maybe 5 bikes. I think one of the attachments is missing. Because of the unique aspects of some of the bike frames it's built from, some are easier to lock to than others. Regardless, it's great and I love it.
Ice Station Orange is pretty similar. If you want to park there, hey, that's fine. It's harder to get to, but it is covered, unlike Red Entrance. You'll just have to either conquer the curb, or shimmy past the shopping carts.

If you continue further south around the building you'll find The Patio, where there are two additional racks. I think employees must park there.

They're also arty. And the orange one is sheltered.

So there you have it. The best grocery store bike parking yet reviewed here at Bellingham Bike Blog. For their efforts at making it easy for cyclists to park & shop they deserve our support.
